Seek humility and
accept our poverty

It takes a lot of humiliation to have a little humility. Though sometimes, there's not so much of the humiliation, and a great deal more of the humility – it depends on each person. But that's the true treasure.

PIERRE GOURSAT - BROTHERHOOD OF JESUS RETREAT - 31 DECEMBER 1979

7 MINUTES

Humility, a virtue so difficult to acquire we are in need of good examples to follow: Pierre Goursat chose humility, and his example can help us.

How can we make a step today, towards that which characterised our brother so well? How do we follow his example in waking-up to the realisation we are a “pauvre type” (sorry individual) ?
With Pierre Goursat, we learn to live a simple life of detachment and how to keep to our place through accepting it from the Lord…

No more wasted time; holiness starts with humility!

Small sacrifices...it's annoying, because they're so small
that no one can say we can't make them!

WHAT WE NEED TO REMEMBER

Accepting our inadequacies

In this world, we have to seem strong. However, we all have inadequacies that we try to hide. Recognising them under God' gaze leads us to seek help in Him alone. That's when we become truly strong.

Growing in humility

We know God wants our well-being and our happiness. However, we often prefer to act on our own, and be "independent". So let's learn, like Theresa of Lisieux, to render simple services and make "small sacrifices" – and let God work great things through all this.

Being child-like

Being humble is like being a child who doesn't worry because he knows he has an all-powerful Father who loves him, and will not let him down.

Trusting in God

Pierre Goursat believed that the Lord always says: "Take care of Me and I will take care of you." It's an excellent bargain!

"As I thought that as I was inadequate, the Lord was taking action, that He was the one taking action – and that I was such a pitiful guy that, obviously, people would realise it wasn't me but the Lord who was acting. So, I felt quite at ease about that. And that's why I took up the role behind the flock. And the Lord's grace increased, more and more."
